Current Events:
Individuals at Wendover are working on a variety of projects.  Currently, we have a joint effort with the Junior League of Greensboro and GTCC to provide a business and professional etiquette class to about 20 participants.  Junior League is hosting the class, while GTCC will be reinforcing the lessons through the weeks.  Classes are held off-site to provide for less distraction.  We also have just wrapped up the summer season with the harvest of 475 pounds of sweet potatoes at the NC State Agricultural Extension Office Community and Legacy Garden. In total, we helped harvest over 60,000 pounds of fresh vegetables for the Guilford county food banks and worked over 80 volunteer hours.

Success Story:
One of our strongest community allies is Barbara Davis of Ahead Computers.  We have had volunteers at her agency for several years, and she has provided computers for LifeSpan's classroom.  This agency refurbishes old computers and then sells them to non-profit organizations and their participants.  LifeSpan and our community coaches, Amanda Exum and Kevin Robinson, have worked with Barbara helping individuals develop computer skills as they rebuild the CPUs, load new software, and ready the computer for sale.  Towana and Tim began going to Ahead Computers with our community coaches.  Initially, they both needed assistance being uncertain in what they were doing and nervous working with electronics.  In less than three months, Amanda and Kevin had worked themselves out of a job and Tim and Towana are on their own at Ahead Computers.  Both ride transportation without assistance, have no difficulty with following direction given by Barbara, and enjoy what they are doing.  An added perk is a stipend earned when a computer they have rebuilt is sold.  Towana and Tim are two of our shining stars and we are excited to share in their success.
