Current Events:
Over the past few months we have increased our communication with WHN and are discussing various options available to increase the scope of services in the Asheville region. Furthermore, we have recently become involved with a local Provider Collaborative group that has enabled us to coordinate service provision for consumers addressing a variety of needs.
Success Story:
Cameron came to LifeSpan (Respite, Developmental Therapies, Personal Care, and Personal Assistance) in need of assistance in several areas. At the time, Cameron, now 10 years old, did not speak or verbally communicate in any capacity. Stephen Field began working with Cameron, teaching sign language, communication behaviors, how to verbalize himself, and most importantly provided support, understanding and friendship. Stephen has also helped Cameron with personal hygiene and was able to help Cameron get to a point where he would eat regularly and appropriately. Cameron can now dress himself appropriately and can independently perform multiple tasks which he could not complete prior to working with Stephen. Cameron can now read due to Stephen's help both in and out of the classroom. Cameron now also speaks, socializes and communicates thanks to Stephen's commitment and compassion for Cameron. Stephen and Cameron continue to work together daily and provide support and friendship for each other.
