The 2019-2020 fiscal year was like none other in our 47 year history! Despite the setbacks we faced during the last half of the year, we were still able to make big impacts in the lives of the individuals we serve in communities all across the state. We know you receive many appeals for giving this time of year. So, we did not want to close this extraordinary year of personal and financial challenges due to COVID-19 with only “an ask” for badly needed financial support. We want to also ask you to celebrate a new era at LIFESPAN. As an institution focused on human services, these challenging times have taught us many lessons. We learned to adapt; we learned to balance compassion and competency with efficiency; and we made pivots so that our faithful Ambassadors could continue to provide the best services and programs during shutdowns. We serve nearly 1500 people daily across 22 North Carolina counties. LIFESPAN operates at about a 1% margin. That margin keeps us caring, cautious and lean, with a renewed commitment to continually improving and keeping costs low while maintaining a delivery of high excellence. While we did receive minimal financial assistance from some resources, we did not qualify for most COVID relief grants. Those grants were overwhelmingly distributed to organizations that provide food and housing needs. Although we operate group homes for individuals who depend entirely on us for their care, including food and housing, we did not qualify for the re-focused COVID grants. That’s why I’m asking you to consider some specific funding needs. LIFESPAN has 8 group homes that are badly in need of refurbishment because of the extra strain of wear due to COVID lockdowns. Will you consider adopting a home? For $5,000 you can refurnish the entire home and name the Living area. For $2500 you can name the dining area and your investment will allow us to update the appliances in the kitchen. For $1000 you can name the meditation/reflection garden as we have needs to expand parking areas, repair ramps and have trees removed. For $500 you can name a bedroom that will totally renew one our Residential Friend’s personal living space. For gifts of $100 or less your name will be added to a list in the home as a Companion of that home. Please use the envelope enclosed to return your gift or go to www.lifespanservices.org/residential/ to give securely online and designate the use of your gift. When you support LIFESPAN, you support every Friend we serve. On behalf of everyone at LIFESPAN, we wish you all health and happiness in 2021! With anticipation and gratitude, Harry R. Workman, D.Min.
