Lifespan – Abilities Illuminated

Iredell County – Early Learning Center Statesville-Broad Street

LIFESPAN Early Learning Center is an inclusive program supporting children with developmental delays and typically developing children from six weeks of age until they start kindergarten. In an inclusive environment, children with and without disabilities participate in the same routines and play experiences and learn to value and appreciate individual differences. Our highly trained staff recognizes children as distinct individuals with special strengths and needs, and makes creative modifications to routines and activities as needed, so that each child benefits from participating in the program.

The children receive instruction based on The Creative Curriculum®. Each class room has clearly defined areas of interest that promote cognitive, social, physical and language development in the fields of language and literacy, social studies, math, science, and the arts. Teachers utilize research-based assessment tools to track each child’s growth and development in the classroom.

As a North Carolina Pre-Kindergarten Program provider, we offer a child-centered, literacy focused curriculum to prepare eligible children, 4 and 5 years of age, for success in Kindergarten and beyond. Children who have been identified are required to adhere to a screening and selection process to confirm participation in a full day program. A developmental assessment will also be provided to each child to identify special needs and monitor growth prior to placement in the program.

The NC Pre-K Program is designed to provide eligible children who may not otherwise be served, with access to a specific curriculum and preschool experience to enhance their school readiness. The program is built on the premise that in order to be academically successful in school, children need to be prepared in the five major domains of development outlined by the National Education Goals Panel. The five domains include health and physical development, social and emotional development, language development and communication, cognition and general knowledge and approaches toward learning.
